What Did You Do - June issue
What did you Do
Whether one believes and accepts it or not; we have been gifted, more so blessed with imbedded talents and skills to achieve and fulfill what many call some preordained destiny. Thus, we each have both the right, and the obligation, to coexist while pursuing that which would provide individual meaning and purpose. The very bible not only instructs us to “Be Fruitful and Multiply” but was referenced when this country’s founding fathers, asserting as self-evident, that all men are created equal, went on to coin the term “Inalienable Rights” to mean God given birthrights assuring “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” for all of earth’s inhabitants: Regardless of what legal guides man may seek to instill thereafter. So important “WAS” the thought that they went on to say, “Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends (as currently being witnessed), it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish” what powers be and “institute a new government.”
Can you hear, or at least ponder the men and women, more so, the creator crying out “What Did You Do” with all that throughout time has been fought for and provided. Yes! What have we each done with the time, resources, opportunities and freedom of choices we’ve been granted to enjoy and, for better or worse, exploit? Have we been good stewards not only for ourselves, but our neighbors and the future of our children as well? Or! Have we simply clung to the word “EXPLOIT” and given it free reign to justify greed, hoarding, and hedonistic pursuits for immediate gratification at the expense of everyone else? I ask again; “What Have We Done?” Have we opened pandora’s box and inadvertently unleashed the monster within?
At its time, The Age of Enlightenment led many people to think about their government and consider ways in which it should be reformed. Such thoughts led to revolutions. Our constitution has avoided such recurrence through its use of amendments and, with the formation of the United Nations, with the leadership of then First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, the 1948 “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” was adopted to expand our alleged “Inalienable Rights” worldwide. But maybe, before the white house continues its present course of action; although it feels like just lip service, we should reconsider what’s still inscribed on our dollar bills and courtroom walls: IN GOD WE TRUST!
We’ve had the right idea all along. And although it’s becoming callous, deep down, our hearts still hold a belief in, and the desire for a better world. We just need to return to the original guiding book our forefathers referenced to dig up and consider the instructions given in Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” Decide! What should you do now?
